Head of Russian FSS Border Guard Department in Armenia showed images  of Azerbaijani shelling targeting Russian border checkpoint in  Gegharkunik to head of CSTO Joint Staff

ArmInfo.Head of the Border Guard Department of the Russian Federal Security Service in Armenia, Lieutenant - General Roman Golubitski, showed images of  Azerbaijani shelling targeting the Russian Border Guards checkpoint  stationed in the east of Armenia to Anatoly Sidorov, Chief of CSTO  Joint Staff.

" The 15-person Sotk border checkpoint was deployed in the two-storey  building, a former guardhouse.  After the shelling began people took  shelter in the corridor of the first floor, no one was wounded. In  fact, during the fire the crew were able to exit the position, but  they were unable to evacuate the entire equipment," Golubitski said,  pointing to the material damage caused as a result of these actions.  

As ArmInfo previously reported, on September 13-14, the Azerbaijani  Armed Forces attacked Russian border guards. In the first case it was  a dislocation point, in the second a column. The fact of the shelling  was confirmed not only by the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, but  also by the Border Guard Department of the FSS of the Russian  Federation in the Republic of Armenia. "In connection with the  information that appeared in the media, the Border Department of the  FSS of Russia in the Republic of Armenia reports that as a result of  the incidents that took place on September 13 and 14, 2022, the  employees of the border agency did not suffered," the Border  Department said in this regard.  We add that, according to the CSTO  press service, the preliminary group of the Mission of the  Organization under the leadership of the Chief of the Joint Staff of  the Organization Anatoly Sidorov continues to work in the Republic of  Armenia.  As part of the visit of the advance group of the CSTO  Mission to Armenia, head of the CSTO Joint Staff, Colonel General  Anatoly Sidorov, met with Head of the Border Guard Department of the  Russian Federal Security Service in Armenia, Lieutenant - General  Roman Golubitski. A thorough discussion of the situation on the  Armenian-Azerbaijani border and measures for its settlement took  place.  On the same day, a meeting was held with Russian Ambassador  to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin. The diplomat noted that Yerevan "attaches  special importance to the CSTO Mission and hopes that the CSTO will  play an important role in stabilizing the situation and taking steps  to prevent the escalation of the situation." Yesterday, Anatoly  Sidorov, Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, held a working meeting with  Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan.  The Mission is entrusted  with the task of developing proposals for de-escalating the tension  that has arisen.
