ArmInfo. Moscow confirms that it has received an appeal from Yerevan in accordance with the available bilateral documents, including on the part of the CSTO.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated this during a weekly briefing. In this vein, she recalled that on September 13, an extraordinary meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council was held, following which it was decided to send an Organization mission to Yerevan, headed by Secretary General Stanislav Zas and Chief of the Joint Staff Anatoly Sidorov.
"The Russian Federation is also doing everything possible to reduce tensions. The aggravation of the situation in the region was discussed by the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry with colleagues from Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the defense ministers of Russia and Armenia. We expect that it will also be the focus of the meeting between the presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan", which is scheduled in Samarkand within the sidelines of SCO. The Ministry of Defense and the border service of the FSS of Russia are making significant efforts. Our military is in close contact with both sides in order to achieve a sustainable ceasefire and return Azerbaijani and Armenian servicemen to their initial positions, "said the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Russia. Meanwhile, when asked by a journalist to what extent the hostilities on the territory of the Republic of Armenia should escalate in order for the CSTO to adequately respond, Zakharova, in particular, said: "For example, I think that sending a leader to the region is a significant use of the capabilities of this organization. Secondly, I am sure that, in the end, this question should not be addressed to Russia, only for one simple reason, that over the past two years our country has made tremendous efforts to resolve the long-standing chronic crisis.
According to her, this was done not only thanks to political declarations and statements, which are very important, but it was done on the ground. "This was done by using our border guards, by using the economic potential of our country in cooperation with two countries - Azerbaijan and Armenia. A whole series of measures [have been undertaken]. I understand that when it comes to difficult and explosive situations, and unfortunately when they have tragic consequences, everyone wants a magic wand that can be waved and everything will be decided. But that's only in fairy tales," she said. According to her, Russia is working in a number of areas, which should develop into a single result. The diplomat added that the direction of activity was determined, and all the possibilities from the Russian side were involved.
