National Assembly of Armenia calls on international community to  condemn aggression committed against Armenia

ArmInfo.The National Assembly of Armenia expresses full support to the armed forces in the holy cause of protecting the sovereign territory of the country. This  is stated in the draft statement of the National Assembly of the  Republic of Armenia, which was announced on September 13 from the  rostrum of the Parliament by Speaker of the NA Commission on State  and Legal Affairs Vladimir Vardanyan.

The statement notes that on September 13, at about 00:05, units of  the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, using artillery, mortars and UAVs,  opened intense fire on Armenian positions located on several sections  of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. In particular, the positions  located in the direction of Sotk, Vardenis, Goris, Kapan, Artanish  and Ishkhanasar were shelled. Civilian infrastructure is also under  fire. In some areas, the enemy made attempts to advance into the  sovereign territory of Armenia.

The document contains an appeal to all political forces, all  citizens, regardless of their political orientation, to remain calm  and unite around the Armenian statehood. "Our homeland is one for all  and needs protection," the draft statement says.

The MPs of the Armenian parliament call on the international  community to strongly condemn the aggression committed against  Armenia by the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan with gross  violations of the UN Charter on the territorial integrity of states,  the use or threat of use of force. From the UN Security Council,  Armenia expects an early discussion of the current situation and the  implementation of actions arising from this situation.  The National  Assembly of Armenia demands from CSTO to immediately implement the  provisions of the Charter of the Organization for the Preservation of  Territorial Integrity of Armenia.  "We appeal to the Russian  Federation to apply the obligations enshrined in the Treaty of  Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance for the Protection of  the Territorial Integrity of Armenia as soon as possible," the draft  statement of the Armenian parliament says.  Vadanyan said that since  09.40 the ruling faction had been working with opposition MPs in  order to develop a single text of the statement. However, the results  of the discussions led to a zero result, since the opposition  "Armenia" and "I have the honor" factions presented separate packages  of statements. The proposals of the "Armenia" faction had nothing to  do with the aggression of Azerbaijan at all, and some proposals of  the "I have the honor" faction could be accepted, and the ruling  faction was ready to take these proposals into account. "Today it was  extremely important for us to have a unified decision of all  parliamentary factions without exception, but, unfortunately, this  was not achieved," Vardanyan said.  In turn, MP from the "Armenia"  oppositional faction Artsvik Minasyan noted that it is extremely hard  to hear about the losses suffered by the Armenian people. The  presented document, according to Minasyan, is incomplete. For this  reason, the faction insists on the inclusion of four main points in  the text of the statement. In particular, this refers to the fact  that Azerbaijan continues its policy of the use of force, which  manifested itself during the 44-day war, and whose anti-Armenian  goals are recorded in the unacceptable so-called Shusha  Turkish-Azerbaijani declaration of June 15, 2021. <We fix a complete  failure in the field of foreign policy of Armenia and the reform of  the army. The ongoing hostilities have definitively exposed the  failure of the so-called peacetime policy. The National Assembly  believes that further negotiations with Azerbaijan can be continued  only in the event of the complete withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops  from the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, the return  of Armenian prisoners of war and other illegally detained persons>,  the oppositionist noted.
