ArmInfo. There are no deadlocks in the process of normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Alen Simonyan shares a similar point of view.
According to him, negotiations are ongoing, and there are no grounds to assert that there is a deadlock. The Speaker noted that there are certain forces that are trying to stop this process, but the current authorities have prevented and will continue to prevent such attempts, putting the interests of Armenia and Artsakh at the forefront.
Commenting on Ambassador Ambassador-at-Large Edmon Marukyan's statement about possible aggression by Baku, the Speaker said that Armenia is waiting for provocations at any time. Simonyan noted that Armenia is closely following the statements of the Azerbaijani side in order to be ready for different scenarios of developments at any moment. As he said, Azerbaijan has always resorted to a strategy of aggravating the situation in the region in order to put pressure on the negotiation process. "But we will not sit quietly and pretend that these statements do not mean anything," the Speaker said, adding that the Armenian side will not discuss the issue of the so-called Zangezur corridor, which is a "red line" for Yerevan.
The Speaker once again stated that Yerevan will continue to promote the peace agenda. According to him, first of all, it is necessary to solve security issues, which can be ensured only if there are two factors - a strong army and peace with neighbors. He stressed that there is already progress on the first issue, and Defense Minister Suren Papikyan is successfully carrying out reforms aimed at professionalizing the armed forces.
