ArmInfo. On August 4, at a government meeting, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan confirmed readiness of the Republic of Armenia to ensure communication between the western regions of Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan through the territory of the republic, but only in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Armenia.
As the prime minister pointed out, Azerbaijan declares that Armenia has undertaken to provide communication between the western regions of Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan. "We are ready to provide this connection, but Azerbaijan does not use the opportunity provided by us. We say today, you can cross the RA border, but in accordance with the RA legislation. Since last year, we have set up checkpoints of the customs and border service of the Republic of Armenia in several places, and we informed Azerbaijan that they can cross the border and establish contact with Nakhichevan at any time in the manner prescribed by the legislation of Armenia", Nikol Pashinyan said.
As for the new road under construction, Nikol Pashinyan noted that the tripartite statement clearly states that this should happen by agreement of the parties. "We say that we consider the discussion of the route of this road as the second issue, the first should be the issue of fixing and launching legal procedures. Today I officially declare that Azerbaijan can cross the border of Armenia at several points and pass to Nakhichevan. If this is interpreted literally, then it is noted that we should ensure the connection of the western regions of Azerbaijan with Nakhichevan. The westernmost region of Azerbaijan is the region of Ghazakh, we are ready to let them through, let them go to Nakhichevan, we guarantee the safety of this movement. And not only in the Kazakh-Ijevan section, but also in the Ghazakh-Berd, Vardenis, Sisian, Yeraskh, Goris sections. But during this period, Azerbaijan did not even try to use it. It should be in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Armenia", Nikol Pashinyan added.
