ArmInfo.A regular meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders is being negotiated, without specific terms being known, Eduard Aghajanyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, RA Parliament, told reporters on July 26.
Many more contacts with Azerbaijan have recently been recorded - between both diplomats and MPs.
As regards the Armenian-Turkish reconciliation, Mr Aghajanyan noted that an agreement was reached at the Armenian and Turkish special envoys' meeting in Vienna on July 1 on the opening of the border for third states' citizens and direct airfreight.
"Implementing the agreements requires preparatory work in Armenia to form transport and logistic infrastructure. In this context, the Turkish special envoy's meeting on the border are welcomed, as they show the agreement are entering a practical stage," the MP said.
Maria Karapetyan, a member of the Civil Contract parliamentary faction, said that Armenia is negotiating with Turkey without any preconditions, without looking at Azerbaijan. Ankara has always stated it was in constant contact with Baku in normalizing its relations with Armenia, and the regular statements should not cause any shock and they do not dictate the Armenian side's actions.
"We are negotiating the reopening of borders with Turkey without any preconditions. Both the Armenian and the Turkish side are officially stating the negotiations are being held without any preconditions," she said.
Speaking of the two agreements, Ms Karapetyan said that "we have to exert efforts now to realize the agreements. As to how Turkey is coordinating its national interests, it is their problem. But we are defending our interests," she said.
Ms Karapetyan stressed that Yerevan is not holding any negotiations with Baku following the "corridor logic", but re-operating the transport and economic links in the region meets Armenia's interests. She welcomes Tehran's statements that it will not allow blocking of its border with Armenia. "That is, we have an ally in this matter, and it is good that we have common interests," the MP said.
On July 1, Special Representatives for the normalization process between Armenia and Turkey, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Ruben Rubinyan and Ambassador Serdar Kili‡ held their fourth meeting in Vienna.
They agreed to enable the crossing of the land border between Armenia and Turkey by third-country citizens visiting Armenia and Turkey respectively at the earliest date possible and decided to initiate the necessary process to that end.
They also agreed on commencing direct air cargo trade between Armenia and Turkey at the earliest possible date and decided to initiate the necessary process to that effect.
Furthermore, they discussed other possible concrete steps that can be undertaken towards achieving the ultimate goal of full normalization between their respective countries.
Finally, they reemphasized their agreement to continue the normalization process without preconditions.
