ArmInfo.Head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, Sergey Naryshkin, arrived in Baku on Tuesday afternoon. He was received by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, as well as by head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Azerbaijan, Orhan Sultanov, the Russian Embassy in Azerbaijan confirmed this information, Turan reports.
The Head of the Foreign Intelligence Service stated that Russia is able to play a key role both in the process of delimitation and demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, and in the issues of opening communications and signing a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan. Touching upon the issues of security in the region, the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service stated that a stable peace in the South Caucasus is one of the priorities of Russian foreign policy. In this context, he noted the key role of Russia in stopping the war in Nagorno-Karabakh, and according to Naryshkin the trilateral agreement between the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan has become a fundamental document for building peace in the region. It should be noted that Sergei Naryshkin was in Yerevan yesterday. He met with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and with his Armenian counterpart, head of the NSS Armen Abazyan. Naryshkin said that he discussed the issues of intelligence exchange, joint actions to identify and prevent a whole range of external threats in relation to both Armenia and Russia.
