ArmInfo. In the first half of 2022, the South Caucasus Railway company transported 220,500 passengers against 192,500 in the first half of 2021 (a 22% increase), a report reads.
A higher number of passengers was recorded in all the directions. Specifically, a total of 205,500 passengers were transported by commuter trains - a 15% increase. Yerevan-Tbilisi-Yerevan and Yerevan- Batumi-Yerevan trains transported nearly 15,000 passengers - a 5-fold increase as compared with 2020.
The Yerevan-Gyumri commuter train is becoming increasingly popular with the population, serving passengers on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The train served 11,500 passengers in the first half of 2022.
The company is also seeking to attract more passengers. With this end in view, the company is negotiating with thee local authorities to improve transport routes and reoperate local railway stations.
