ArmInfo. On June 30, at an extraordinary meeting of the National Assembly of Armenia, the issue of electing a judge of the Anti-Corruption Chamber of the Cassation Court was again discussed.
On June 29, the Supreme Judicial Council nominated Rubik Mkhitaryan, Arsen Nikoghosyan and Artur Sargsyan for this position. However, as a result of a secret ballot, none of the candidates was elected, 29 MPs voted for Rubik Mkhitaryan, 0 for Arsen Nikoghosyan, and 33 for Artur Sargsyan.
According to the law "On the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly", if none of the candidates is elected, a second round of elections is held, in which two candidates who received the largest number of votes in the first round can participate. David Khachaturyan, a member of the Supreme Judicial Council, presented the biographical data and careers of Rubik Mkhitaryan and Artur Sargsyan. However, as a result of the secret ballot, none of the candidates was elected.
NA Deputy Speaker Ruben Rubinyan, chairing the sitting, noted that according to the NA Rules of Procedure, if a candidate for a judge of the Court of Cassation is not elected, the Supreme Judicial Council nominates new candidates within 10 days after the voting.
