ArmInfo. An Armenian-Indian cultural center will be constructed in Gyumri. Armenia's Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Alfred Kocharyan and Indian Ambassador to Armenia Kishan Dan Dewal discussed the idea at their meeting.
The idea implies the construction of an exhibition hall-museum, where the Armenian painter Sargis Khachaturyan will display replicas of the frescoes of the Ajanta Caves in India. The replicas are now at the National Gallery of Armenia.
Last October, Indian FM Subrahmanyam Jaishankar visited Armenia and was shown Sargis Khachatryan's paintings. Impressed, he proposed construction of an exhibition hall with the Indian government's sponsorship.
Mr Kocharyan thanked the Indian side and highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation with friendly nations.
The area neighboring Charles Aznavour Square has received preliminary approval as a construction site.
The museum will be of great interest not only for tourists, but also for local residents. The construction will be launched in six months.
Ambassador Kishan Dan Dewal thanked Mr Kocharyan for supporting the Armenian-Indian cultural dialogue.
