ArmInfo.Washington remains committed to the process of co- chairing the OSCE Minsk Group. US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried stated this in an interview with RFE/RL's Armenian service.
In this regard, she stressed that the United States is one of the co-chairs of the Minsk Group, which plays an important role in the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. "We also see that the European Union plays an important role. Therefore, I believe that this is a moment of opportunity for the region, and we will do our best to help Armenia achieve peace>, the diplomat said.
At the same time, Donfried did not agree with the proposal that Washington stopped the process within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing format in the context of the war in Ukraine, since, along with the United States and France, Russia is also co-chairing the group, which unleashed a war against Ukraine at the end of February.
"We still believe that this is a very important format, especially on Nagorno-Karabakh. And it's very important that we keep different formats to try to move the world forward. And we will continue to do so in the future", Donfried said. When asked whether this would mean cooperation with Russia, she answered in the affirmative.
Regarding Azerbaijan, which no longer sees the role of the Minsk Group, the diplomat confirmed that this topic was also raised at a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during her visit to Baku. <Azerbaijan does not support the process of co-chairing the Minsk Group. The United States supports and participates in this process and will continue to do so>, the US assistant secretary of state said.-
