ArmInfo. The latest statement by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on the status of Artsakh is another confirmation of the well-known words of Otto von Bismarck "Politics is the art of the possible." Expert of the Armenian Institute of International Relations and Security David Stepanyan expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
On June 15, Pashinyan stated in the Armenian parliament that the status of Artsakh is not a goal itself, but a means of ensuring the security of Artsakh Armenians. "If in the past the concept of the Armenian side of the settlement of the Nagorno- Karabakh conflict was based on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, from which the rights and security guarantees of the population of Karabakh were based, now rights and security are the basis from which the issue of status already arises. In other words, we state that the status is not a goal itself in this situation, but a means of ensuring the security, rights and freedoms of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh. This is understandable to the international community, makes our goals, the essence of the Nagorno-Karabakh problem more understandable," the prime minister said.
"Pashinyan said everything almost openly. Having no political opportunity to raise the status issue in the current negotiation process with Azerbaijan, Yerevan focuses on ensuring the security and rights of the people of Artsakh, including the right to life. There are only two ways to guarantee them. A) Indefinite preservation the current status quo - the presence of Russian peacekeepers in Artsakh. C) Granting Artsakh de facto independence from Aliyev's Azerbaijan, which threatens this very right to life," he stressed.
Causing the absence of a political opportunity for Armenia to directly demand independence for Artsakh, primarily on the basis of the results of the 44-day aggression of Azerbaijan and Turkey, Stepanyan noted that in this case, the reference to the security and rights of the Artsakh people is, in fact, uncontested for Yerevan. Stepanyan noted that, the lack of political opportunity for Armenia to directly put forward a demand for the independence of Artsakh, first of all, due to the results of the 44-day aggression of Azerbaijan and Turkey, according to him in this case, referring to the security and rights of the people of Artsakh, in fact, has no alternative for Yerevan.
As Stepanyan noted, the lack of a political opportunity for Armenia to directly put forward a demand for the independence of Artsakh, first of all, is connected with the results of the 44-day aggression of Azerbaijan and Turkey, and according to him, in this case, Yerevan, in fact, has no alternative but to refer to the security and rights of the people of Artsakh. Because Yerevan's only alternative is to establish vertical relations between Baku and Stepanakert, which, according to his forecasts, will end with the inevitable "Nakhijevanization" of Artsakh. And Baku understands this very well. That is why for many years they diligently avoided in negotiations at any level, including the public one, the mere mention of the fate of the Nakhichevan Armenians, who had undergone many years of ethnic cleansing. " Fortunately, apparently, today, they finally began to realize it in Yerevan, hence the rejection of the Kocharyan-Sargsyan policy and the entry into the notorious policy of the art of the possible.
The subsequent implementation of which will allow the application of the principle of international law "remedial secessions" in Artsakh in the future. This is dictated by the current geopolitical realities, this is dictated by the language the West speaks today, this is dictated by the interests of the Armenian nation," Stepanyan summed up.
