ArmInfo. The meeting of the Committee of Secretaries of the Security Council (CSSC) of the CSTO in Yerevan fulfilled all the tasks set. This was stated by CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas on June 17 in an interview with journalists at the end of the CSSC meeting.
"During the meeting, we analyzed in detail the military-political situation in the world and assessed the situation that has developed both in the zone of responsibility of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and in the adjacent regions. Today, with regret, we can state that there is a crisis in the global security system as such.
Agreements that have existed for decades are actually no longer valid, and the level of distrust between a number of leading players has reached a critical level. At the same time, regional challenges and threats have not lost their sharpness, moreover, due to the growing global uncertainty, they tend to aggravate," the CSTO Secretary General said.
At the same time, he stressed that the principled position of the CSTO remains the same: "we are convinced of the need for a political settlement of all existing contradictions and we call for the same all the forces on which the international security situation depends."
"Along with this, we are taking all the necessary measures to strengthen peace and stability in the member states of the Organization and are ready to protect their interests. We have to state that there is an increase in security threats to our states simultaneously in several directions," he said.
One of the main tools for ensuring the security of the member states of the Organization, countering challenges and threats, according to Zas, is building up the potential of collective security forces and means, as well as the organization of close interaction between special services and law enforcement agencies in carrying out operational and preventive measures. At the same time, he stated that for the past three years, a "Mercenary" special operational and preventive operation has been carried out in the CSTO format, aimed at suppressing recruitment, blocking entry / exit channels for citizens of the CSTO member states to participate in terrorist activities, as well as to neutralize the resource base international terrorist organizations in the CSTO space. At the same time, he said that all members of the Organization supported the proposal to give the "Nemnik" special operation the status of a regional anti-terrorist operation of the CSTO of permanent action.
Zas also recalled the capacity building and experience from year to year in countering drug trafficking, illegal migration and the use of information and communication technologies for criminal purposes. "In the face of increasing challenges and threats in the information and information technology spheres, ensuring the security of critical information infrastructure for all states of the Organization has become one of the priority state tasks. Of course, the most important priority is an active offensive fight against crime in the information technology sector. This year, we have a lot of work to do to organize the practical activities of the Coordinating Council for ensuring the biological safety of our states," he said.
The CSTO Secretary General also noted that, taking into account the discussion of issues of prompt response to challenges and threats to the security of our states, the CSTO Secretariat is preparing a package of legal acts to improve the crisis response system.
"We plan to submit the document to the autumn meeting of the statutory bodies and the session of the CSC. Thus, taking into account the current situation, we have to fulfill serious tasks to strengthen the comprehensive potential of our Organization, continue work to increase the authority of the CSTO in the international arena," Zas concluded.
