ArmInfo. The activities of the commission for the delimitation and demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border are in no way connected with the situation around the village in the Askeran region of Nagorno-Karabakh (Parukh, ed. note) in the zone of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping contingent. Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, announced this on June 15 during a weekly briefing on the sidelines of the SPIEF.
She made the corresponding statement in response to a clarification on how the issue with the Karabakh village of Parukh will be resolved, given the fact that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed hope in Yerevan that within the framework of the substantive work of the commission on the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the issue of the village, where the Azerbaijani Armed Forces invaded in March this year in violation of tripartite agreements, would be considered, while the Prime Minister of Armenia, in an interview with Aljazira, said that the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh will not be connected in any way with the issue of delimitation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
"At the same time, we expect that the launch and systematic work of the commission will help increase confidence between Baku and Yerevan and prevent incidents both on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and in the zone of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping contingent," the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
At the same time, when asked to indicate the date of the second meeting of the Armenian-Azerbaijani commission on the delimitation of the border, Zakharova recalled that Moscow welcomed the holding of the first meeting of the commission on the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border on May 24.
"We agreed that the second part will be held in Moscow. For our part, we are ready to organize this meeting in the very near future, and we are waiting for proposals on dates, respectively, from the Armenian and Azerbaijani partners. We, for our part, are ready," Zakharova summed up. It should be noted that on March 24 the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, having violated the line of contact, invaded the village of Parukh in the Askeran region of Artsakh and tried to capture the strategic height of Karaglukh. These territories are in the zone of responsibility of Russian peacekeepers. The co-chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk Group called on Azerbaijan to restore the contact line of March 23. However, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces continue to be at the Karaglukh height, as a result of which more than 400 people cannot return to their homes.
On June 9, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, commenting on the situation around the Karabakh village of Parukh, where the Azerbaijani Armed Forces invaded on March 24, noted that the Russian military keep this issue as one of its priorities, which Armenian partners are well aware of. "There are already certain results in terms of de-escalating the situation on the ground. And we have an understanding that as part of the substantive work on delimitation that is already beginning, these issues will be considered and will certainly be resolved," the Russian minister said.
