ArmInfo.State Minister of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) Artak Beglaryan chaired a meeting of the NKR State Council for protection of cultural heritage in the occupied territories of the Republic of Artsakh.
Mr Beglaryan stated that the Council's objective is to unite the government agencies and experts in Armenia and in Nagorno-Karabakh to coordinate the work to protect the cultural heritage in the territories under Azerbaijan's control.
"One of the Council's functions is monitoring of crimes against our cultural heritage and presenting the facts on various international platforms using legal, political and scholarly mechanisms," he said.
Since Azerbaijan is implementing a policy of cultural genocide in the occupied territories, Mr Beglaryan stressed that the Council is supposed to carry out large-scale work to accomplish the tasks.
The Council approved a programme of measures to protect the cultural heritage in the occupied territories of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Since the end of the 44-day war, a number of Armenian monuments in the territories under Azerbaijan's control have been destroyed with the international community's tacit consent.
