ArmInfo.Armenia's authorities are extremely concerned over the situation in Ukraine, Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an interview with Al Jazeera.
"I know all countries are concerned over it, as we are witnessing downfall of the world order, and no one knows what new world order is coming," he said.
As to possible impact of western sanctions against Russia on Armenia's economy, which is closely linked to Russia's, Armenia's premier said the situation is unfavorable to Armenia's economy. In the first quarter of 2022, Armenia's economy recorded 8.6% growth, and the government hopes the growth rate will remain unchanged.
"The Ukraine crisis caused many people to transfer their businesses from Russia to Armenia as Armenia is a neutral economic zone and both the states are members of the Eurasian Economic Union. Under the circumstances we hope - and I think - the situation in Armenia's economy will be controllable," Mr Pashinyan said.
Not only the economic situation in Armenia, but also global economic tension has had its impact on Armenia, with foods supplies, inflations and other factors among the causes.
"Armenia's present indicators are quite good," the premier said.
As to whether Russia or the West are exerting pressure on Armenia, Mr Pashinyan said that the Armenian government is in a rather sensitive situation.
"But we are doing our best to be an honest and reliable partner of Russia, European and western states and our neighbors," he said.
Leaders must make the right decisions in such situations through it is not an easy task. And the Armenian authorities' duty is to retain adequate relations with all of its partners, without betraying any of them.
