ArmInfo. Armenian FM Ararat Mirzoyan hosted a delegation of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) headed by President Claire Bazy Malaurie. The delegation has arrived in Yerevan at the invitation of the RA Constitutional Court.
Mr Mirzoyan stated that the visit of the Venice Commission president is a good opportunity to promote Armenia's cooperation with the Council of Europe and its agencies. The Commission's recommendations are highly important to Armenia.
He highly appreciated the CE's support to Armenia in implementing democratic reforms, human rights protection and corruption control and rule of law. In the context of Armenia's democratic development, Mr Mirzoyan singled out the 2021 early parliamentary elections in conformity with the highest democratic standards.
Mr Mirzoyan presented the humanitarian situation as a result of Azerbaijan's aggression against Nagorno- Karabakh in 2020. Specifically, he spoke of the repatriation of the Armenian POWs and civilians being illegally kept in Azerbaijan, protection of the Armenian cultural heritage in the territories under Azerbaijan's control and Azerbaijan's deliberately creating humanitarian problems in Artsakh.
