ArmInfo.Armenian historian, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, former Rector of Yerevan State University (2006-2019), Honored Scientist of the Republic of Armenia Aram Simonyan passed away at the age of 68.
Simonyan was awarded the title of "Honored Worker of Science of the Republic of Armenia" in 2014. He was awarded the medal of Movses Khorenatsi (2009), the medal of Garegin Nzhdeh and a letter of appreciation from the Prime Minister of Armenia. Since October 2021, he was elected an honorary doctor of St. Petersburg State University.
Simonyan is the author of 85 scientific papers, 4 of which are monographs. Scientific research deals with the issues of the history of the Armenian people in the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, in particular historical statistics, industrial capital, as well as the problems of the history of Artsakh and Zangezur in the period from 1917-1921.
Under his leadership, 10 Ph.D. theses were defended. He has participated in many international and republican conferences.
