ArmInfo.Within the framework of his official visit to Georgia, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan met with Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili.
According to the press service of the President of the Republic of Armenia, Papuashvili noted that he especially appreciates the fact that Vahagn Khachaturyan made his first official visit to Georgia as President of Armenia. "Such high-level visits strengthen the centuries-old friendship between our countries," he said.
In turn, Vahagn Khachaturyan noted that Armenia highly appreciates and attaches great importance to the Armenian-Georgian relations.
rDuring the meeting, the role of inter-parliamentary cooperation, the organization of regular meetings of friendship groups and committees operating in the parliaments of the two countries was especially noted. The need for further development and expansion of special good neighborly relations between Armenia and Georgia was mutually pointed out. During the meeting, issues of regional security and strengthening of stability were touched upon, it was noted that both Armenia and Georgia are interested in establishing a lasting and long-term peace, as this is the main and most important guarantee for the development of the region. Vahagn Khachaturyan and Shalva Papuashvili emphasized that relations between the two countries, based on mutual trust, constant dialogue and cooperation, have always been at a high level and will continue to develop in the same vein.
At the end of the meeting, Vahagn Khachaturyan made an entry in the book of honored guests of the Georgian Parliament.
"I am glad to make my first official visit to Georgia, to a country with which we millennial spiritual, cultural and civilizational commonalities. I am sure that my visit will become a new impetus for further strengthening and deepening relations between our countries" the President of Armenia wrote.
As part of his visit to Georgia, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, together with the delegation, visited the Heroes' Square and laid a wreath at the memorial of the heroes who died for the unity of Georgia. This is a monument to the Georgian cadets who died in 1921 in battles with the Red Army, the leaders of the anti-Soviet uprising of 1924, as well as those who fell during military operations in Abkhazia in 1992-1993 and the five-day war in South Ossetia in August 2008 - a total of about 4 thousand people".
