Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili wrote about this in her microblog on Twitter, after the ceremony of welcoming President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan, who today left for Tbilisi on an official visit.
"Our region faces new challenges, but also new opportunities," Zurabishvili added. The official welcoming ceremony for the President of Armenia was held near the residence of the President of Georgia at the Orbeliani Palace.
The national anthems of the Republic of Armenia and Georgia were played, the presidents honored the state flag of Georgia and introduced state delegations to each other.
"I am convinced that, as presidents of countries with good neighborly relations, we can make a significant contribution to the strengthening and deepening of bilateral relations for the benefit of our countries," the Armenian President wrote in the book of honored guests of the Orbeliani Palace.
Within the framework of the official visit, the Presidents of Armenia and Georgia held meetings on face-to- face and in an expanded format, after which Vahagn Khachaturyan and Salome Zurabishvili made joint statements for the media.
Khachaturian during the briefing noted that Armenia attaches great importance to the development of relations with neighboring Georgia. According to him, the intensity of high-level meetings indicates the fulfillment of bilateral obligations to further expand mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas. "Today, Mrs. President and I discussed a number of issues in a short period of time - transport, communications, humanitarian issues. We reaffirmed our commitment to maintaining a high level of multilateral relations and talked about deepening cooperation in the field of high technologies, which will be very important for our countries and will allow us to achieve success in the region. It is also important that neighboring countries share their experience. I think that the different paths we have chosen will give us the opportunity to deepen our relations, as well as talk about security, regional problems. I want to emphasize that in such issues as regional and peaceful ones, everything is based on our friendship. I wish success to all our undertakings," Vahagn Khachaturyan said, Georgian First Channel reports. Within the framework of the official visit, the President of the Republic of Armenia will also hold meetings with the Prime Minister of Georgia and the Chairman of the Parliament.
