ArmInfo. In negotiations and in the process of developing relations with the United States, Armenia needs to focus on interaction, cooperation in the space sector in addition to the sector of civil nuclear energy. Lawyer, former Deputy Ambassador of Armenia to the United States Armen Kharazyan, expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
"I had the opportunity to advise the representatives of our authorities to seriously think about the establishment of joint space objects with the United States. First of all, on the establishment of a space communications satellite and the so-called observation satellite or reconnaissance satellite. So that these satellites, in the final analysis, should be launched into orbit by American carriers or carriers of the European Space Agency," he stressed.
According to Kharazyan, in this case, the presence of such satellites at the disposal of Azerbaijan should be of secondary importance for Armenia. The main thing is Armenia's familiarization with modern technological capabilities, which, in the diplomat's opinion, is an essential element for the development of the country. At the same time, he suggested that similar work in the direction outlined by him was already being carried out by the leadership of Armenia.
"I think that at the appropriate moment it will be possible to talk about these steps. Just as today we are talking and discussing as a fact the cooperation between Armenia and the United States in the field of civil nuclear energy. The establishment of space platforms in Armenia is a priority task for our government. More one such task is to create new opportunities for carrying out not only passenger transportation, but also cargo transportation in the field of civil aviation. The establishment of such a structure for a country located in a geographical position similar to that of Armenia seems to be vital," he stressed.
Kharazyan considers partnership in the field of developing practical responses to military threats to the national security of Armenia and in the field of air defense as another important potential area of Armenian-American cooperation, with an emphasis on the tools of creating "killers" of combat drones. As an important element in accompanying the process of implementing the projects mentioned above, the diplomat highlighted the prospect of the formation of a culture and the possibility of bringing technological achievements into the field of military-political and operational planning in Armenia.
"It is important to understand that the implementation of all these steps in a mutual connection will allow us to create an appropriate environment in our country over the coming years based on the technological development of human capital and potential. And, in my opinion, the answer to all these questions lies precisely in the development of the Armenian-American relations. If the implementation of these projects and opportunities is started and continued, in 3-4 years Armenia will find the strength to restore its self- confidence and own vestibular abilities in the surrounding region," Kharazyan summed up.
From May 2 to May 6, a landmark visit of Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan to the United States took place. For the first time in the last ten years, the meeting of the head of Armenian diplomacy with an American counterpart was held without reference to one or another international format and, most importantly, the conflict around Artsakh. The purpose of Mirzoyan's visit to Washington was to participate in the Armenian-American strategic dialogue meeting. And he held talks there with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, USAID Director Samantha Power, with high-ranking representatives of the US Congress. The Armenian minister also made a speech at one of the leading think tanks in the US, Atlantic Counsil. As a result of the Mirzoyan-Blinken talks, a memorandum of cooperation in the field of civil nuclear energy was signed.
