ArmInfo. The Russian side highly appreciates the activities of the tripartite working group of vice-premiers on unblocking transport and economic ties in the South Caucasus. Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated this during a briefing.
"We consider the issue of unblocking all transport and economic ties in the South Caucasus one of the key tasks in the context of the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, and more broadly, in the region as a whole," Zakharova said. She noted that the activities of the trilateral working group were highly appreciated by the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan during the meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister on May 12 on the sidelines of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council in Dushanbe. According to him, the co-chairs of the trilateral working group regularly communicate with all parties to work out appropriate solutions.
Answering a relevant question, Zakharova said that Russia had finally formed its expert team on the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border at a weekly briefing. According to her, the Azerbaijani and Armenian partners of Russia announced the closeness of the completion of the process of forming a national delegation.
She stressed that the Russian Federation stands for the formation of a bilateral commission on the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border with its subsequent demarcation with the advisory assistance of Russia. At the last meeting in Dushanbe, the Azerbaijani and Armenian partners informed that they were close to completing the process of forming a national delegation. Russia has already formed its expert team. "We expect that in the near future we will be able to launch practical work on the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border," Zakharova said.
She also noted that Russia has a unique expert potential in the field of resolving border disputes in the post- Soviet space. At the same time, Moscow "will be glad to share its developments with Azerbaijani and Armenian friends as part of the commission's activities."
