ArmInfo. The Solar Artsakh project will be launched in the Republic of Artsakh to ensure the country's energy security. The project will be implemented by the Shtigen company after 30 of the 36 hydro power plants operating in Artsakh before the 44-day war are under Azerbaijan's control now.
Before the war, Artsakh was energetically self-sufficient and even exported energy to Armenia. At present, however, Artsakh's energy-generating capacities are capable of meeting only 50% of its own energy needs.
According to the information on the official website of the Shtigen company, 12 solar water heaters with a capacity of 300 liters each have been supplied to Artsakh. Hayk Shekyan, CEO, said that it allows 16kwh of energy to be save daily.
"This figure will reach 58mln kwh if solar water heaters are installed in 10,000 apartments in Stepanakert," he said.
The Shtigen company was founded in 2011 to enhance the energy security of Armenia and Artsakh and reduce the cost of energy generation. The company has over 150 employees.
