ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that yesterday's meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin was productive.
"Vladimir Putin and I agreed yesterday that the intergovernmental council of Armenia and Russia should become the main platform for the implementation of the agreements that we have reached in the field of economy, energy and other areas. We have common challenges in the current situation, but there are also opportunities, which need to be registered and try to use them in some way," he said at a meeting on April 20, TASS reports.
Pashinyan noted that the Armenian authorities are grateful to the Russian government for helping to strengthen Armenia's food security. "I would like to thank you for some of the recent decisions that have supported us in a big way in the framework of food security. This is very important for us; I thank the government of the Russian Federation. I am sure that in the future we will also cooperate quite effectively and find solutions to further increase trade turnover and bilateral trade," he said.
He also stated that yesterday's meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin was productive and noted that important agreements were reached at it. "Yesterday, Vladimir Vladimirovich [Putin] and I discussed almost the entire agenda of our interstate relations, held very productive talks and reached very important agreements," he said.
Pashinyan added that Russia is the main trade and economic partner of Armenia and the volume of trade between the two countries is growing. According to him, Moscow and Yerevan are actively cooperating within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and they have accumulated rich experience in cooperation in the field of energy. The Armenian premier noted that the countries plan to further develop cooperation in the transport sector and other sectors where there are already specific plans.
Pashinyan has been in Moscow on a two-day official visit since April 19. On Tuesday, he had a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. In the joint statement adopted following them, the leaders advocated the development of integration in the EAEU, including an increase in the share of settlements in national currencies, expressed concern over the unilateral sanctions of a number of countries and agreed to jointly overcome the challenges created, including in the field of food and energy security and logistics. Pashinyan and Putin also noted the need to intensify cooperation in a trilateral format together with Azerbaijan and signed a cooperation program in the energy sector. Pashinyan also met with Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko and Speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin.
