ArmInfo. As soon as it became known that the MPs could not enter Artsakh along the Lachin corridor, official Yerevan established high-level communication with the government of Artsakh and the Russian authorities. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated this on April 13 during the government hour, answering a relevant question.
"We were assured that the members of the National Assembly of Armenia are not allowed to enter Artsakh in order to avoid possible provocations. As for our position, it is clearly formulated in the statement of the Foreign Ministry," added Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, recalling that the statement of November 9, 2020 does not provide for any restrictions on the movement of citizens of the Republic of Armenia through the Lachin corridor.
According to him, all the more so the members of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia should have unhindered access to Artsakh. To clarify, that is, that was the answer of the Russian peacekeepers, Mirzoyan said that the Armenian side was informed that entry was prohibited in order to avoid provocations in Artsakh.
As ArmInfo previously reported, a group of opposition MPs of Armenia, led by Vice Speaker of the National Assembly Ishkhan Saghatelyan, was not allowed into Artsakh to meet with parliamentarians.
As Saghatelyan said, such a decision was made as a result of an agreement between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan. "At the moment, another criminal agreement between Nikol Pashinyan and Ilham Aliyev is being declassified. Both of them very quickly and at the same time reacted in a coordinated manner to the statement of the opposition MPs that they were going to Artsakh and gave the checkpoint the list of names of political figures leaving in Artsakh, demanding that they not be allowed to enter Artsakh. Another fact of a conspiracy and a deal to isolate Artsakh with the subsequent eviction of Armenians was revealed. It is noteworthy that in connection with our visit, the reaction of the authorities of Azerbaijan and Armenia was identical and complementary," the Vice Speaker wrote.
In turn, another opposition MP Artur Ghazinyan noted that for the first time in the modern history of Armenia, the entry of MPs of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia into Artsakh was prohibited within the framework of the "irreversible peace agenda" of Nikol Pashinyan and Aliyev.
Meanwhile, the Armenian Foreign Ministry expressed concern over the fact that the military personnel of the Russian peacekeeping contingent did not allow a group of members of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia to enter Nagorno-Karabakh.
" This action contradicts the Trilateral Statement of November 9, which envisages the unimpeded connection of Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia through the Lachin corridor. All parties to the Statement must strictly adhere to the latter's letter and spirit, as well as fulfill its obligations," the Armenian Foreign Ministry said.
