ArmInfo. "Hayastan" and "I have Honor" opposition factions are boycotting the next 4-day plenary session of the National Assembly of Armenia. As head of the Hayastan faction Seyran Ohanyan stated on April 12 from the parliamentary rostrum, the MPs will leave for Artsakh and the border villages of Armenia.
According to him, today Armenia and Artsakh are facing serious challenges, which is due to the global crisis in international politics and the clearly anti-Armenian behavior of Turkey and Azerbaijan.
Ohanyan recalled that at the last rally convened by the opposition, red lines were mentioned related to the country's security, which the government does not have to stop. " The provisions of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Armenia - our territorial integrity, sovereignty - are not subject to discussion for us. We consider unacceptable any option for resolving the Karabakh conflict, in which case Artsakh can become part of Azerbaijan," said the head of the faction and ex-minister of defense of the Republic of Armenia.
According to him, the current government of the Republic of Armenia is not able to solve many internal and external problems. Recent events, according to Ohanyan, confirm the fears that everything is going within the framework of the Azerbaijani-Turkish agenda - there is a threat to the territorial integrity of Armenia, and Artsakh is under threat. "Within the framework of the so-called peace agreement, our people are being prepared for new concessions, new defeats, new humiliations," he said. According to Ohanyan, the actions of the parliamentary majority are absolutely inadequate to the current situation, especially when it comes to Artsakh.
"Based on the current situation, the parliamentary opposition announces that it will not participate in meetings and voting this week. We are leaving for Artsakh and the border regions of Armenia," Ohanyan said.
Seyran Ohanyan set up the flag of Artsakh on the rostrum; MP from "Hayastan", NA Vice Speaker Ishkhan Saghatelyan followed him. MP Hayk Mamijanyan voiced a similar decision on behalf of the "I have honor" faction. The opposition factions left the NA session hall.
MPs of the ruling faction reacted to this statement. Thus, a member of the "Civil Contract" faction Vagharshak Hakobyan stated that by his trip to Artsakh, the opposition endangers the citizens of Artsakh and Armenia. "The idea was voiced here that they are leaving for Artsakh in order to return to the most important agenda, to protect the citizens of Artsakh. I affirm the opposite, they are leaving for Artsakh right now, endangering the citizens of the Republic of Artsakh, the citizens of the Republic of Armenia. Keep this in mind," Hakobyan said.
