ArmInfo. The CSTO will not be involved in the special operation the Russian Armed Forces and the military forces of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics are carrying out in Ukraine, Fyodor Lukyanov, Editor-in-Chief of Russia in Global Affairs, told ArmInfo.
"The draft amendments to the Agreement on CSTO peacekeeping activities is most likely necessary for the next stage of the special operation in Ukraine, when peacekeeping forces will have to be deployed in Ukraine to maintain order there," the exert believes.
As regards the current situation in international relations amid the war in Ukraine, Mr Lukyanov called it "fast construction" of an Iron Curtain between Russia and Europe. And the masterminds can get the opposite result. According to the expert, the expected fundamental changes in global economy, trade and finance will affect not only Russia. The entire global system will be affected.
Of greater importance is the humanitarian aspect of the ongoing changes. The history does not know such large-scale repressive measures against the world's largest country, Russia. Mr Lukyanov stresses that the measures are aimed at causing discontent inside Russia to force it into changing its policy. Thereafter, the possibility of removal of the aforementioned Iron Curtain will be an instrument of foreign pressure on Russia. "And at this point I would like to say again that the real results could be entirely different from those expected by the masterminds behind this process. It could follow an entirely different course, namely, the formation of an entirely new national mentality behind the Curtain, in Russia. And it can by no means be ruled out that this new national mentality will become rather stable and directly opposite to what the masterminds behind the sanctions and the Iron Curtain are expecting," Mr Lukyanov said.
