
ArmInfo.The fight against corruption remains one of the absolute priorities of the Prosecutor's Office. This was stated by Prosecutor General of Armenia Artur Davtyan at a meeting with head of the European Union Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Andrea Wiktorin.
According to the press service of the Prosecutor's Office, Artur Davtyan highly appreciated the role of the EU delegation, as evidenced by the numerous programs implemented with the support of the EU in Armenia, in particular, in the Armenian Prosecutor's Office. Of key importance in this regard is the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement signed between Armenia and the EU, which sets out the main directions and goals of strategic reforms in various areas.
The Prosecutor General presented the reforms carried out in the Prosecutor's Office in connection with the creation of an anti-corruption unit, as well as a unit specializing in the confiscation of property of illegal origin. According to him, the Prosecutor's Office is committed to fulfilling its obligations under the strategic reform programs in the judiciary and anti-corruption areas, expressing the hope that the EU will support their implementation.
Andrea Wiktorin highly appreciated the fact that, despite the war in Artsakh, the severe consequences of the coronavirus and new challenges, Armenia continues to implement a package of reforms aimed at strengthening the rule of law, democracy and human rights. She expressed the readiness of the EU to support this process, emphasizing that the program of reforms in the part of the prosecutor's office is being successfully implemented.
It is noted that during the meeting, the EU assistance programs on judicial reforms, the introduction of the e-justice system, issues of mutual interest, including the Armenian practice of using detention as a measure of restraint, and the initiatives of the RA Prosecutor's Office to improve this area were discussed.
