ArmInfo. The Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia has published the final part of the indictment in the case of second President of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharyan and former Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan.
On February 15, the Court of General Jurisdiction of the city of Yerevan (residence Shengavit), chaired by Judge Anna Danibekyan, considered the case of Kocharyan and Gevorgyan. Prosecutor Petros Petrosyan read out the final part of the accusatory speech, according to which Kocharyan is charged with the act provided for by paragraph 2 of part 4 of Article 311 of the RA Criminal Code (taking a bribe on an especially large scale), and Gevorgyan - by paragraph 2 of part 4 of Article 311 and paragraph 1 of part 3 of Article 190 (legalization of incomes obtained illegally in especially large amounts) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia.
In particular, according to the document, Robert Kocharyan was charged with the fact that from April 9, 1998 to April 9, 2008, being the President of the Republic of Armenia, using his official position, he facilitated actions in favor of Silva Hambartsumyan, the sole participant-director of TSSC LLC Armenia. In February-May 2008, with the support of Samvel Mayrapetyan, he received a particularly large bribe in the amount of 927,000,000 drams, which is equivalent to $3 million.
Former Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Armen Gevorgyan is accused of receiving a particularly large sum of 309,000,000 drams from Silva Hambartsumyan within the framework of the above-mentioned transaction, being an official of a state body from February 2006 to April 21, 2008, with the assistance of Samvel Mayrapetyan, received from Silva Hambartsumyan a bribe in especially large amounts equivalent to $1 million and legalized the funds received.
Thus, Kocharyan faces imprisonment for a term of 7 to 12 years with confiscation of property or without it, and Gevorgyan - imprisonment for a term of 6 to 12 years with confiscation of property or without it.
Robert Kocharyan's lawyer Hayk Alumyan noted that the charge is unclear, he asked for a 20-minute break to show exactly which charges are unclear. Alumyan expressed confidence that the court would come to the same conclusion. "I am convinced that the accusation is incomprehensible even to the investigator to whom this was dictated," the lawyer said.
The court announced a 20-minute break so that the defenders could ask their questions related to the vagueness of the prosecution.
Returning from the break, Robert Kocharyan's lawyers Hayk Alumyan and Hovhannes Khudoyan left the courtroom in protest. "I demand to clarify the accusation read out by the prosecutor. As a sign of protest, I will not be present at today's meeting," Alumyan said.
As previously reported, citizen Hambartsumyan told the investigation that in 2008 she gave a bribe in the amount of $ 7 million to persons close to Robert Kocharyan for further transfer to Kocharyan, Serzh Sargsyan and Armen Gevorgyan (former head of the presidential administration of the Republic of Armenia). Hambartsumyan said she did this to avoid government interference in her business.
