ArmInfo.Regrettably, over the last 30 years, the Nagorno- Karabakh conflict has not only been a cause of serious crisis and instability in the South Caucasus, but has also affected the development of the region and neighboring territories, as well as the interregional cooperation, reads a complimentary message by Iranian FM Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Armenian-Iranian diplomatic relations.
Iranian ambassador to Armenia Mr. Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri read out the message at an international conference held at the RA Academy of Science.
"However, I have the honor to inform you that, from the outset, Iran, while stressing respect for territorial integrity and people's rights, has been seeking to contribute to a fair settlement of the conflict," the message reads.
Iran was one of the first states to recognize Armenia's independence and establish diplomatic relations with the country. The bilateral relations have dynamically been developing in various fields over the last 30 years. The two states have implemented a number of joint projects, with the Iran-Armenia gas main and power line construction being the major ones. The sides are also committed to opening transport corridors via their respective territories, which will improve the nations' positions in the two people's interests, strengthen regional stability and security.
Mr Hossein Amir-Abdollahian is confidence that, despite the progress, the Armenian-Iranian relations have greater potential. Obstacles must be removed with immediate measures to follow to realize the potential. In assessing the 30-year-long period, Mr Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stresses that the latest processes in the South Caucasus have created favorable conditions for expansion of the Armenian-Iranian cooperation, as well as for multilateral regional cooperation. The Iranian fm also pointed out official Tehran's intention to strengthen cooperation with Armenia both at the bilateral and at the regional level. The international conference entitled "Armenia-Iran: historical past and future" has opened at the RA National Academy of Science on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Armenian-Iranian diplomatic relations. At the conference Armenia and Iranian scholars will deliver talks about the history and development of Armenian-Iranian relations, Turkey's policy toward Iran, dynamics of Armenian society's attitude to Iran, rights of the Armenian minority in Iran, mass media's role in Armenian-Iranian relations, Armenian-Iranian political and economic relations after the Artsakh war of 2020.
