ArmInfo. More than half of the RA citizens are in favor of starting a dialogue on normalizing relations with Turkey. This is evidenced by the results of a sociological study conducted by the American International Republican Institute (IRI), which was conducted in Armenia from November 22 to December 5, 2021. The level of statistical error of the study, which covered 1512 respondents across the country, is +/- 2.5%.
Thus, when asked to what extent you agree with the statement that Armenia should start a dialogue with Turkey and normalize bilateral relations, while pursuing the agenda for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey, 47% of respondents answered that they fully support this approach, 26% - rather support, 7% - rather do not support, 18% - strongly do not support, another 2% found it difficult to answer.
At the same time, 48% of respondents believe that Armenia should establish bilateral relations with Turkey, putting forward its own preconditions, including Turkey's non-interference in the issue of Nagorno- Karabakh peace. Another 22% of respondents support this thesis, 5% rather do not support it, 22% do not support it, and 3% found it difficult to answer.
At the same time, 29% of respondents believe that under no circumstances should Armenia seek normalization of relations with Turkey, another 15% rather support this statement, 25% rather not, 28% do not support such an approach.
It is noteworthy that more than half of the citizens of the Republic of Armenia believe that the opening of transport routes with Azerbaijan will have a negative impact on the economic development of Armenia.
So, to the question of how, in your opinion, the opening of transport routes with Azerbaijan will affect the economic development of Armenia, 45% of respondents noted that it is negative, another 14% - rather negative, 10% believe that it is neither positive nor negative, 5% - positively, 22% rather positively, another 4% found it difficult to answer.
When asked in your opinion, how the opening of transport routes with Turkey will affect the economic development of Armenia, 36% of respondents expressed the belief that it is extremely negative, 17% - rather negative, 29%- rather positively, 6% - positively, 8% - neither positively nor negatively, 4% - found it difficult to answer.
