ArmInfo. Armenia has improved its position in the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index-CPI. Among the 180 countries included in the study, Armenia ranked 58th (together with Greece, Jordan and Namibia), with a corruption perception index of 49 points.
The report notes that: "Following the 2018 Velvet Revolution, Armenia (49) initially made both significant democratic improvements and positive strides against corruption, climbing 15 points on the CPI over the last decade. But despite progress, in 2021 promised anti-corruption and judicial reforms stalled in the wake of the political and economic crisis triggered by the pandemic and renewed conflict in the Nagorno-Karabakh region."
Only Georgia is ahead of Armenia in the South Caucasus region, which ranked 45th, with a perception index of 55 points. This is followed by Turkey - 96th place, with a perception index of 38, Azerbaijan - 128th place with a perception index of 30, Iran - 150th place, a perception index of 25. At the same time, in comparison with partner countries in the EAEU, the position of Armenia the most beneficial. According to the study, according to the results of 2021, Russia in the CPI ranking took 136th place with 29 points, Belarus - 82nd place (41 points), Kazakhstan - 102nd place (37 points), Kyrgyzstan - 144th place (27 points).
Among the countries of the CIS and the former USSR, Moldova ranked 105th (36 points), Ukraine - 122nd (32 points) and Turkmenistan - 169th (19 points)
The Corruption Perception Index, which ranks 180 countries and territories in terms of perceptions of corruption in the public sector, uses a scale from zero to 100, with 0 being extremely high and 100 being extremely low.
The global average CPI score is 43, remaining unchanged for the tenth consecutive year, with two-thirds of countries scoring less than 50.
The leading countries in the CPI are Denmark (88 points), New Zealand (88 points) and Finland (88 points). The last lines are occupied by Syria (13 points), Somalia (13 points) and South Sudan (11 points).
