ArmInfo.Major General Andrei Volkov will lead the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh. This was reported on Tuesday by the Russian Sputnik agency, citing a source close to the peacekeeping forces in Stepanakert. The commander is replaced as part of a planned rotation. The acceptance procedure is being carried out.
Major General Volkov was the deputy commander of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno- Karabakh from November 2020 to May 2021, when the peacekeepers were led by Lieutenant General Rustam Muradov.
Currently, Volkov is the chief of the radiation, chemical and biological defense troops of the Southern Military District of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Since September 2021, the post of commander of the peacekeeping contingent in Karabakh has been held by Lieutenant General Gennady Anashkin.
