ArmInfo. A Yerevan minor court has granted the investigative agency`s application for arrest of Chairman of the National Security party Garnik Isaghulyan as judicial restraint.
Mr Isaghulyan is facing false denunciation charges.
Mr Isaghulyan was detained on Tuesday.
At a news conference on December 20, 2021, Mr Isaghulyan claimed that Armenian Ambassador to Ukraine Vladimir Karapetyan had allegedly been recruited by Azerbaijani and Turkish special services and has been collaborating with them since 2008.
According to him, Ambassador V. Karapetyan held talks with his Azerbaijani counterpart and the two agreed that Armenia`s prime minister was to meet with the Turkish president`s representatives in Batumi, Georgia, and ask for money as the Armenian budget was empty and lacked the funds for pensions.
"Thus, he [Isaghulyan] brought false charges of felony against the Armenian diplomat," reads an official reports.
Mr Isaghulyan is also facing other charges, including public calls for violence against Armenia`s prime minister, slander against incumbent and former officials of Armenia and Artsakh.
It is noteworthy that after the Armenian premier`s trip to Georgia this September, a number of media outlets reported an alleged meeting between Nikol Pashinyan and Ibrahim Kalin, Turkish presidential spokesperson and special adviser. Armenia`s premier allegedly fell out of touch with the Protocol Services of Armenia and Georgia for several hours.
No information on the agenda was available.
Repeated media reports are available on Ambassador Vladimir Karapetyan`s alleged contacts with Azerbaijani and Turkish special services. Direct contacts between Armenia`s premier and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev were reportedly mediated by Mr Karapetyan and his wife.
