ArmInfo. The NATO-member Turkey should not be expected to suddenly announce its intention to commit a second Armenian genocide. And even if anyone could expect this to happen, such expectations would only be evidence of that one`s primitive thinking, Dean of the Faculty pf Oriental Studies, Yerevan State University, Professor Ruben Melkonyan told ArmInfo.
"According to Turkish political experts, Turkey has never concealed it has no intention to repudiate the Young Turks` heritage. So, at the government level, it goes on considering Armenia as an enemy state and very existence of which is unacceptable to Turkey. Turkey`s policy of maintaining a blockade against Armenia over the last decades, supplying arms to Azerbaijan and its involvement in the 44-day war is striking evidence of Turkey`s essence," Melkonyan said.
Armenia is branded similarly in the programmes of Turkey`s ruling coalition formed by the Justice and Development party and radical nationalists. In this context, the expert said, Armenia`s premier should be informed of the history and programmes of Turkey`s ruling parties, which programmes are focused on putting an end to Armenian nationhood. Mr Melkonyan believes that Armenia`s premier needs at least to b informed of the views and works by experts on Turkey.
"I think that after he does so everything will become clear to him: opposing and resisting the Turkey- Azerbaijan alliance has no alternative. And this resistance does not necessarily imply military means. Regrettably, we should not expect the Pashinyan-led ruling force to make all these steps, given their attempts to convince us that Turks are not Armenians` enemies," Professor Melkonyan said.
In fact, Armenia`s incumbent premier is well informed of all the Turkey-related state of affairs, he said. The problem is Pashinyan`s extremely optimistic and paradoxical approaches to Turkey, which results in his oversimplified and even primitive ideas of possible actions against Armenia by Turkey itself and its satellite Azerbaijan.
