ArmInfo.Hearings on "Issues of demarcation and delimitation" initiated by opposition forces are being held in the Armenian parliament.
The hearings are attended by MPs from the "Armenia" and "I Have Honor" opposition blocs, experts, analysts, former servicemen, public figures, as well as representatives of various NGOs and non- parliamentary opposition, including representatives of the Liberation Movement. For the last 4 days, protest actions have been held in Yerevan demanding that the authorities publish a document that they plan to sign with Azerbaijan regarding state borders. There are no representatives of the ruling Civil Contract party at the meeting.
The hearings are chaired by Ishkhan Saghatelyan, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly from the "Armenia" opposition bloc, who, opening the session, noted that these hearings are a good opportunity for non-parliamentary forces to present their position on the issues of demarcation and delimitation. "This is an opportunity to use the parliament's rostrum to appeal to international organizations and present demands to the current government," he said, adding that a statement will be adopted at the end of the meeting.
In turn, MP from the "Armenia" bloc, former Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan stated in his speech that these hearings are being held in the difficult military-political conditions that have developed around Armenia and Artsakh. According to him, the criminal large-scale military aggression of Azerbaijan against Artsakh with the support of Turkey and the involvement of mercenary terrorists, unjustified encroachments on the sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia by Azerbaijan and constant provocations have made the regional security environment even more fragile.
"The purpose of these hearings, together with you, is, first of all, to raise all the problems that we face today on the issue of clarifying the border, which are carried out in the absence of peace, hastily by the Armenian authorities in violation of legal procedures, in the absence of legislative grounds, following the false Turkish-Azerbaijani promises. Our purpose is to present it to the public, to tell about the threats and dangers, "Ohanyan said.
The MP pointed out that there are no preconditions today for starting the process of delimitation and demarcation of the border with Azerbaijan, recalling the criminal actions of the Azerbaijani side both during the aggression against Artsakh and after the hostilities. He recalled that the enemy not only occupied part of the territories of Askeran, Martuni regions of Nagorno-Karabakh, Hadrud, Shushi, but also, now through creeping aggression, seizes the sovereign territories of Armenia, thus carrying out a unilateral delimitation and paving the way for the so-called corridor.
Ohanyan also recalled the lack of a clear response and assessment from the international community to these aggressive actions of Azerbaijan today.
He added that by signing the infamous document, the Armenian authorities gave the enemy strategic ways, heights, thus endangering the lives of the Armenian population, and gave the enemy a carte blanche to put constant pressure on Armenia, especially on the capitulating government.
"Our bloc has repeatedly stated that it is not against peace and the clarification of borders, but in a timely manner, without losses for Armenia and Artsakh. It is necessary to exclude the inclusion of Artsakh in Azerbaijan. Unblocking communications should not be done to the detriment of Armenian security. Meanwhile, now all processes are proceeding under Turkish-Azerbaijani pressure, in the vilest way - at the cost of the blood of Armenian soldiers. Delimitation is carried out through the blood of Armenian soldiers, "the opposition MP stressed.
