Third Armenian president`s lawyers demand retraction from MP

ArmInfo.The defense lawyers of Armenia`s third president Serzh Sargsyan are insisting  that Khachatur Sukiasyan, a Civil Contract parliamentary faction  member, retract his allegation that Armenia`s third president lost US  $100mln in a casino. 

Talking to reporters on Wednesday, the lawyer Amram Makinyan stressed  the allegations are unfounded.  In the context of Sargsyan`s lawsuit  against Sukiasyan, Makinyan said: "After hearing Mr Sukiasyan`s  defense lawyers we have not understood whether they are going to  produce the evidence or not. One thing is clear: no such evidence can  be produced, as the allegations are unfounded. Armenia`s third  president has never denied the rumors about his trip to Baden-Baden.  But is it famous for casinos alone? It is not Monte Carlo or Las  Vegas, which are famous for their casinos. Baden-Baden is a resort  town with places of cultural interest. Armenia`s third president,  making use of the social guarantees due to him, spend his holiday in  Baden-Baden. An end must be put to this trite story about  Baden-Baden, and we are going to do it," Makinyan said. 

Commenting on the fact that Serzh Sargsyan was summoned by the  Anti-Corruption Committee, he said that the Committee can consider  any criminal case to obey a wish at a political level, and such a  wishes has, of course, been expressed. Armenia`s x-president has not  been interrogated in the case in question nor can he testify  anything. 

On Wednesday, a Yerevan minor court has started considering a lawsuit  by Armenia`s third president Serzh Sargsyan against Khachatur  Sukiasyan, a Civil Contract parliamentary faction member. The staff  of the RA National Assembly is also involved in the case as  defendant. Sargsyan demands that Sukiasyan publicly retracts his  allegations and slander. 

During the court sitting, Sargsyan`s lawyers inquired of Sukiasyan`s  representatives about the evidence that Armenia`s third president  lost US $100mln in a casino in Baden-Baden. Sukiasyan`s  representative said that the evidence will be produced in due time  under a court decision.  In one of his speeches in Armenia`s  Parliament Khachatur Sukiasyan statd that Armenia`s third president  had lost US $100mln in a casino in Baden-Baden.
