Armenian director Artavazd Pelechian was awarded a special Life achievement award at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam - IDFA , for invaluable contribution to the field of cinematography. According to "Kinoashkhar", the award ceremony took place at the legendary cinema in Amsterdam Tushinski.
Within the framework of the festival, on November 19, the cinema hosted the premiere of Pelechian's "Nature" film, which was produced by the French Fondation Cartier and the ZKM German company.
The film was released in 2020 and is the director's first work after a 30-year hiatus. The film is the return of the Maestro to the main theme of his work - the opposition and harmony of man and nature. Speaking about the importance of the Armenian director's films, the director of the festival, Orwa Nyrabia called him the poet of documentary films in the history of cinema. Due to health problems, Artavazd Pelechian personally could not come to Amsterdam. Herve Chandes, director of the Cartier Museum of Contemporary Art in Paris, and Andrei Ujica, a Romanian director, will receive the award instead, after which it will be sent to Armenia.
The IDFA Film Festival has been held in Amsterdam since 1988.
