ArmInfo.The Russian Knights, an aerobatic demonstration team of the Russian Air Force, held an air show in Yerevan`s sky to celebrate the 111th anniversary of the Kacha Higher Military Aviation School of Pilots. Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin, at a ceremony before the air show, congratulated the graduates.
"What we are going to see with pleasure today - the aerobatics by the legendary, world-famous team - is a token of friendship, respect and solidarity by the Russian leadership and the top officials of the Russian Ministry of Defense addressed to the fraternal Armenian people. It is most important in the hard times our fraternal nation is experiencing. And what are going to see today is a symbol of not only aerobatics and art of fighting of Russian pilots, but also our fraternal and allied relations," the ambassador said. Commander of the Russian airbase in Erebuni, Colonel Alexander Petrov applauded the decision by the Russian Ministry of Defense on the performance in Yerevan of the displays the Russian Nights performed at the air show in Dubai.
"Thank you, Russian Knights for showing your programme in Yerevan. Four SU-30 of Guards regiment 237 will show the entire aerobatic complex, which was shown at the Maks 2021 air show and in the UAE this year," Petrov said.
Following the air show the commander told the journalists about the history of the Kacha Higher Military Aviation School.
"The oldest aviation school established in Kacha in 1910 is the first aviation school in history. The year 1912, when the first graduates arrived at military units, we consider the date of formation of air force. Many famous graduates came from Kacha, including Heroes of the USSR, test pilots, astronauts. And the Russia Nights - three of the four pilots are Kacha School graduates. They were returning from the Dubai air show. The aircraft were planned to land at Erebuni and get refueled, and the crew were to have a rest. The Russian and Armenian Ministries of Defense decided to make this fine gift to Yerevan residents. The weather is fine and the aerobatics is perfect - this programme was shown at the air show in the UAE," Petrov said.
Thee Russian Nights performed flights on SU-30M. The aerobatics included the Loop, Rolling, Bell (a variation of the tailslide maneuver), Mirror, and others.
