ArmInfo.RA Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan at the meeting with head of the UNICEF Office in Armenian Christine Weigand highly appreciated the active cooperation with the Organization in the field of protecting the rights of children.
As reported by the press service of the RA Ombudsman, during the meeting they discussed the situation with the protection of the rights of children in communities that have become border ones due to the recent war, especially issues related to the implementation of the right to education.
Tatoyan spoke about violations of children's rights on the Goris-Kapan road due to illegal border and customs control points of Azerbaijan, in particular, violation of the right to education. He noted that in some parts of the Syunik region, the Azerbaijani armed forces are deployed in close proximity to schools, which is absolutely unacceptable and contradicts international requirements for the protection of children's rights.
The situation with the realization of children's rights in institutions for the care and protection of children when returning from institutions to the family was separately mentioned.
Further cooperation between the two institutions in the field of child protection, implementation of joint programs for the protection of children, including the preparation of an extraordinary public report on the status of implementation by the Republic of Armenia of its obligations under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and its protocols was emphasized.
