As High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan said in parliament yesterday, the introduction of the institution of the Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs in foreign countries will expand the network capabilities of the Office of the High Commissioner. "The purpose of the implementation of the Institute of Commissioners for Diaspora Affairs is to develop Armenia-Diaspora interaction, increase the efficiency of work carried out in this area, ensure stable relations between Armenian communities and target community potential, as well as contribute to the preservation of Armenian identity, organizing events aimed at repatriation and integration of the Armenians of the Diaspora in Armenia, "he said.
Plenipotentiaries for Diaspora Affairs will be appointed by representatives of the Armenian communities of these countries by the decision of the Prime Minister of Armenia at the proposal of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs in the status of public advisers in foreign countries (without salaries and with irregular working hours). They will provide professional advice on the issues of Armenia-Diaspora cooperation, support the work carried out by the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs in the field of cooperation with the Diaspora. The initiative will not require additional financial resources from the state budget, since they will not be considered civil servants of Armenia.
