ArmInfo.Washington and Paris called on Yerevan and Baku to stabilize the situation along the border. 

Thus, the State Department said that Washington is concerned about  reports of the situation on the border between Armenia and  Azerbaijan, calls on the parties to stop hostilities and resume  negotiations, including through the Organization for Security and  Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). “We have seen alarming reports of  active hostilities between Armenia and Azerbaijan.  We call on  Armenia and Azerbaijan to immediately stop hostilities and resume  negotiations on the merits, including under the auspices of the OSCE  Minsk Group co-chairs, in order to find comprehensive solutions to   all unresolved issues, one way or another related to the Karabakh  conflict, " the representative of the State Department told TASS.

The French Foreign Ministry also released a statement in connection  with the aggravation:  "France expresses deep concern at the   deteriorating security situation in several sections of the border  between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the alleged use of heavy weapons,  which resulted in numerous casualties, especially on the Armenian  side. France calls on the parties to adhere to the ceasefire which  they pledged to abide in the tripartite declaration of November 9,  2020", the statement said.  

On November 16 at about 1:00pm units of the Armed Forces of  Azerbaijan attacked the Armenian positions located in the eastern  direction of the border. The enemy used artillery, armored vehicles,  firearms of various calibers.

As a result of the retaliatory actions of the Armenian side,  according to the RA Ministry of Defense, the enemy has large losses  in manpower and equipment. The Armenian side also has losses. The RA  Defense Ministry reported late in the evening that according to the  agreement reached with the mediation of the Russian side, the fire in  the eastern direction of the Armenian border has been stopped since  6:30pm, the situation has relatively stabilized.

The RA Defense Ministry announced the name of one dead Armenian  serviceman and informed about the capture of 12 Armenian soldiers by  the enemy. The loss of two combat positions from the Armenian side is  also reported.
