ArmInfo. Significant progress can be noted in relations between Armenia and Ukraine. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to Ukraine Vladimir Karapetyan stated this in an interview with journalists on the sidelines of the final conference of the Union of Armenians of Ukraine in Yerevan.
"I can say that there is also a political dialogue. We are trying, where possible, to bring our positions closer. But this is not easy given certain geopolitical developments. At the same time, it is possible. This is the work of the Embassy, "the diplomat noted.
At the same time, he indicated that bilateral relations should not be limited to political statements, pointing out in this regard the deepening economic interaction. "And the agreements reached within the framework of the meeting of the Armenian-Ukrainian intergovernmental commission, which took place in September in Yerevan, indicate that official Yerevan and official Kiev have a desire to develop cooperation in all sectors. And the embassies should do everything possible to realize these desires, "Vladimir Karapetyan stressed.
In this context, he said that after the visit of the Ukrainian delegation to Armenia, several events have already taken places, which are a continuation of the agreements reached as a result of the September meeting.
The ambassador noted that it is still difficult to talk about mutual visits at a higher level, but drew attention to the fact that the meeting of the intergovernmental committee was chaired from the Armenian side by the Minister of Economy, and from the Ukrainian side - by the Minister of Social Policy. "Here, the Ukrainian delegation was received at the level of deputy prime minister. This suggests that there is a desire to develop bilateral relations. But, of course, it is necessary to carry out appropriate work for meetings of a higher level, "said Karapetyan.
In an interview with journalists, People's MP of Ukraine, head of the inter-parliamentary friendship group Armenia-Ukraine Artem Dmitruk, in turn, noted that the main emphasis in Armenia-Ukraine relations should be on friendship, stating that Armenians and Ukrainians are fraternal peoples.
"There is a political dialogue with Armenia represented by our parliamentary group. Our position is clear - the need for friendship, interaction, trade and mutual support of each other," he said.
The parliamentarian recalled that during the visit of the Armenian MPs to Ukraine, possible options for interaction in economic, strategic and other areas were discussed. "Today this process is still at the negotiation stage. But I think that in a year we will be able to discuss specific issues of economic and strategic interaction. Now we are establishing and strengthening our relations in order to build something more significant for the two states on their foundation, "said Dmitruk.
Since 2014, high-level contacts between Armenia and Ukraine have been virtually frozen. Ukraine even recalled its ambassador "for consultations" in connection with Armenia's position on the Crimean issue, within the framework of which Armenia spoke out, including in favor of taking into account the fundamental right of the people to self-determination in such conflicts. The last official visit of the President of Armenia to Ukraine dates back to 2012. According to the RA Statistical Committee, the foreign trade turnover between Armenia and Ukraine for 9 months of this year increased by 9.3%, amounting to $ 111.6 million. Exports grew by 7.8% to $ 17.3 million, while imports increased by 9.6% to $ 94.3 million.
