ArmInfo. RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in an interview with Public Television presented the position of the Armenian government on the possible format of "3 + 3" regional cooperation.
Pashinyan in particular noted: "In fact, two days ago, Armenia, our Government at the level of the Deputy Foreign Minister, expressed a position in this regard, and our position is the following. I would like to emphasize that the regional cooperation is emphasized as a key provision in the Government's Action Plan, we have been interested in all the possibilities of regional cooperation from the very beginning. The issue is in nuances. Our stance is the following, the possible 3+3 format shouldn't have the kind of items on its agenda which we are already discussing in other formats in agreed terms. In particular, the issue of opening regional communications, the issue of the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, and so on. In other words, if that format brings a new agenda, a mutually acceptable agenda, for example, the study of economic transit opportunities in the region, it can be very interesting, we can be interested in it."
The "3 + 3" cooperation format includes six states: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Russia, Turkey and Iran. Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, after talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahiyan, said that he had discussed the initiative to create a "3 + 3" negotiation format on the issue of unblocking economic and transport ties in the region. Lavrov previously noted that Iran has a positive attitude towards this initiative, like Turkey and Azerbaijan, and also expressed the hope that Georgia will show interest in creating such a mechanism for consultations and agreeing on decisions on the development of the Transcaucasus. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Georgia David Zalkaliani, in turn, said that it would be very difficult for Georgia to participate in the "3 + 3" format together with Russia, but the country should be represented in large geopolitical projects in some form.
On November 3, during a briefing, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that the creation of a mechanism for cooperation in the "3 + 3" format for the countries of the South Caucasus and their neighbors could increase the level of trust in interstate relations. "The development of multilateral regional cooperation meets the interests of all prospective participants in this format. In our opinion, its launch would help increase confidence in interstate relations, settle existing relations, and reveal the transport potential of the region," she said.
