ArmInfo.Unidentified persons have stolen the high-voltage overhead line along the main railway traffic artery, reports the press service of the South Caucasus Railway.
"On November 4, unidentified persons stole 120 meters of the overhead line running along the Sevan-Tsovaghyugh railroad haul. They cut a pole with a high-voltage (3,000 volts) overhead line along the main traffic artery. The 5-hour delay interfered with the time-schedule of freight trains," reads the report.
The police were informed of the incident and have launched an investigation.
The South Caucasus Ralway company is suffering substantial losses.
"More frequent and hazardous instances of theft and damage of property have been recorded. Theft of cable and volt-free lines were recorded earlier, but the last case is a reckless action. It is by a happy chance that the offenders were not killed and the traffic was interrupted at the right time.
"The South Caucasus Railway once more warns citizens of an extremely high risk of breaking the safety norms in the railway infrastructure. By willfully interfering in the railway operation citizens risk not only their own health and life, but can cause harm to other people as well," reads the report.
The South Caucasus Railways CJSC is a daughter company of the Russian Railways company. Under a relevant agreement signed on February 13, 2008, the concession period is 30 years, with a possible extension for another 10 years.
