ArmInfo. Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia Rustam Badasyan received the head of the European Union delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Andrea Wiktorin.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to the implementation of the Meghri customs point modernization program at the expense of the EU and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. They also considered the possibility of initiating similar programs aimed at modernizing other infrastructures as part of the EU investment support package.
The parties emphasized the need to actively use the EU technical assistance instruments (Twinning, TAEIX) in the context of customs and tax administration reforms, as well as considering possible EU assistance in setting up customs laboratories. Issues related to the receipt by the Republic of Armenia of observer status in the working group of the Convention on Common Transit Procedure and the necessary steps in this direction were discussed.
To note, the EU investment support package assumes the allocation of about 2.6 billion euros to the country over the next 5 years. Next year, Armenia will receive 13 billion drams (27 million euros) within the framework of Armenia-EU cooperation under the Eastern Partnership program. The funds will be used to implement 5 joint priority initiatives of the RA and EU governments related to the construction of the North-South highway, other infrastructure, socio-economic development of the southern regions of the Republic of Armenia, modernization of healthcare institutions, improvement of educational institutions and modernization of scientific infrastructure, digital management and promotion of innovations, as well as the modernization of quality infrastructure systems in the field of economy, including an increase in the level of safety and quality of agricultural products, the creation of a modern Logistics Center within the framework of public-private partnerships.
