ArmInfo.The Russian peacekeeping contingent in Artsakh will remain longer than the term prescribed in the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020. This opinion was expressed by Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan on October 28 at a briefing after the Cabinet meeting.
According to Grigoryan, this conclusion can be reached based on the infrastructures created for the peacekeeping contingent in Artsakh.
When asked whether Armenia alone can ensure the security of Artsakh, Grigoryan stressed that joint discussions are underway to resolve this issue.
To recall, in accordance with the agreements specified in the joint statement of the President of the Russian Federation, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, from 00:00 Moscow time on November 10, 2020, a complete ceasefire and cessation of all hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh were announced. A peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation has been deployed for a period of five years to control the ceasefire and military operations in Nagorno- Karabakh. The presence of the contingent can be extended with the consent of the parties.
