ArmInfo.A working meeting of the CSTO Permanent Council members with plenipotentiary representatives of the parliaments of the Organization's member  states at the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly took place in St.  Petersburg. According to the CSTO press service, General Secretary of  the body Stanislav Zas and Deputy Secretary General of the  Organization, Samat Ordabaev also took part in the event.

During the meeting, issues of improving the interaction of the CSTO  Parliamentary Assembly with other bodies of the Organization were  discussed. The CSTO Secretary General noted that the Organization  attaches great importance to the participation of the Secretariat in  events held by the CSTO PA, and the leadership of the Secretariat  regularly participates in meetings of its Council.

Stanislav Zas said: "The parliamentary dimension is one of the  foundations on which the foundation of our Organization rests, and  therefore the CSTO Secretariat attaches great importance to  interaction with the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly as one of the tools  to strengthen and increase the effectiveness of the Organization's  activities. Our meeting today is all the more timely, since the  development of the parliamentary dimension is one of the priorities  of the Chairmanship of the Republic of Armenia in the Collective  Security Treaty Organization in 2021-2022. "

In turn, Chairman of the CSTO Permanent Council, the RA  Plenipotentiary to the Organization Viktor Biyagov stated that the  CSTO PA plays an important role in the adoption of model legislative  acts and recommendations that contribute to the convergence of the  legislations of the member states of the military alliance and bring  it into line with the provisions of international treaties concluded  within the CSTO.

"In the context of the parliamentary dimension, it is important to  converge and harmonize the national legislation of the CSTO member  states in the field of ensuring national security, taking into  account new challenges and threats. We also consider the development  of parliamentary diplomacy of the CSTO to be relevant for building a  dialogue on the platforms of international parliamentary  organizations and forums, " said the Chairman of the CSTO Permanent  Council.  During the meeting, the need to develop and effectively use  the tool of public diplomacy to build a positive image of the  Organization was highlighted.

They also discussed the implementation of the Action Plan dedicated  to the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Collective Security  Treaty and the 20th anniversary of the Collective Security Treaty  Organization and the preparation of the jubilee session of the  Parliamentary Assembly.
