ArmInfo.Human Rights Defender (HRD) of Armenia Arman Tatoyan reports on the activity of the armed forces of Azerbaijan in the Gegharkunik region of the Republic of Armenia, where they invaded in May of this year.
Thus, according to the RA Ombudsman, the armed forces of Azerbaijan, which invaded the Gegharkunik region of the RA, built large shelters, accumulated a large amount of firewood and concreted the roads leading to the positions.
"Their activity has sharply increased recently. Moreover, they continue to build new roads, increase the number of military personnel and weapons in their positions. Constantly carry out active engineering work to strengthen their positions. We are talking about the illegal placement and criminal actions of Azerbaijanis in the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia. They are physically present on the very lands that legally belong to the citizens of the Republic of Armenia, on the basis of the established legal documents," Tatoyan emphasized, noting the reliability of the information, which was verified and confirmed, including by the regional office of the Human Rights Defender.
"These are the Azerbaijani positions from which Azerbaijani servicemen commit terrorist acts against the civilian population of Armenia. They periodically fire at the villages of Verin Shorzha, Sotk, Kut, Gegharkunik region of the Republic of Armenia and other regions, in particular residential buildings, set fire to pastures and meadows of civilians. Servicemen of these positions committed a large number of thefts of animals from the residents of the Republic of Armenia.
The presence of the Azerbaijani armed forces in the vicinity of the villages of the Republic of Armenia and on the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia is outright criminal activity, in itself violates the vital rights of the villagers - the right to life and live in safety, property and family income. Their presence disrupts the peaceful life of people," Tatoyan stated.
The Human Rights Defender of Armenia is convinced of the need to immediately begin the establishment of a demilitarized security zone around the borders of the Republic of Armenia, the immediate removal of Azerbaijani servicemen from the vicinity of villages in the Republic of Armenia and roads between communities. "This proposal of the RA Human Rights Defender is included in a special international document - Resolution 2021 of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). Resolution No. 2391 (2021) of September 27. The Human Rights Defender will also send relevant reports on this matter to international organizations, state bodies of the Republic of Armenia and civil society organizations.
It is obvious that the basis of Azerbaijani criminal acts, gross violations of human rights, and the source of their replenishment is the same - the policy of hatred and enmity as well as the genocidal and ethnic cleansing policy of the Azerbaijani authorities, "the Ombudsman of Armenia summed up.
It should be reminded that on May 12 and May 13, the Azerbaijani armed forces illegally invaded and established themselves in two areas of the sovereign territory of Armenia in the Gegharkunik and Syunik regions of Armenia. They continue to be in these areas and intimidate the civilian population to this day.
