Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, during his speech at the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS member states, speaking about the further development of the Organization, stressed the importance of adherence to the principles reflected in the basic documents of the CIS, in particular sovereignty, equality of peoples and the right to self- determination, inviolability of state borders, non-use of force and settlement of disputes by peaceful means.
As reported by the press service of the RA MFA, the above-mentioned was stressed in the context of the military aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh.
Mirzoyan stressed the importance of fulfilling the provisions of the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020, in particular, the need for the immediate release of Armenian prisoners of war and other citizens and the preservation of the Armenian cultural and religious heritage in the territories under the control of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan. At the same time, the Armenian Foreign Minister expressed his conviction that a comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the mandate of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs would make a great contribution to the establishment of long-term peace in the South Caucasus.
The CIS foreign ministers, at the meeting, in the context of the further development of the Organization, exchanged views on regional and international issues, discussed in detail political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation within the CIS.
The foreign ministers summed up the work done over the past 30 years, the programs implemented, the prospects for the development of the CIS and the priorities of its activities. As a result of the CFM meeting, a number of statements were adopted, which the next day will be submitted for consideration by the Council of CIS Heads of State. During the meeting, an agreement was also reached to hold multi-level consultations between the foreign ministries of the CIS member states in 2022.
A Joint Statement was adopted to strengthen the Convention on the Prohibition of Biological and Toxin Weapons, a decision to establish a base organization of the CIS member states to study issues of countering terrorism and other manifestations of extremism, and other documents.
